I guess anyone following my dA account might have noticed that I haven't been posting any new projects in a while. The truth is that I have a lot of plush projects in mind (an Eleventh Doctor plushie most likely), but I have been waylaid by Epic Project of DOOM.
As you can probably tell by the chosen subjects of my plush projects, I am a massive Doctor Who geek. The biggest Doctor Who convention in North America, Gallifrey One, happens every Presidents' Day weekend in the LAX Marriott hotel. I attended my first one this year, and immediately grew to love the con, and especially the costumes. I saw a lot of ingenuity and creativity on display and when I returned home, I decided that I wanted in on some of that.
So I've spent the majority of this year planning out a costume based on the Fifth Doctor (who is my favorite out of the eleven incarnations of the venerable Time Lord). For those who don't know, he looks like this:
Now considering that I am a girl, I didn't want to go for a straight copy of the costume, but instead I'm aiming for a female version of the Doctor, with a skirt instead of pants and a more feminine look overall. I've sewn a skirt (the first time I've tackled a pattern) and now over holiday break I'm going to attempt sewing the coat. I do have some bits and pieces of the costume already put together. I didn't have a sweater at the time this photo was taken but that's changed since then. I'm waiting on a few more things to arrive (darn slow holiday mail delivery) before taking more photos:
I'm trying to finish the outfit before Gallifrey One 2011 (happening next February), and I'm thankfully on schedule so far. I just hope nothing bad happens over the holiday break which would severely cut into my sewing time.
